How do I make the body stick out from the background?

Hi, I'm using Dreamweaver and I wanted to make the body stick out from the background. When I save my document and then open it with internet explorer the text is blended with the background. How do I fix this in my HTML code? What should I use? Difference in code? I'm just a beginner so take it easy on me please. Thanks in advance!
