Need help with Mp3 player?

I downloaded some songs from Itunes, converted them to Mp3 version and then plugged my player in and dragged the songs across, they showed up on my player, but not under music ~ under the explorer tab and have M4a attached at the end. I've never had this trouble before downloading!!.....Can someone please Help???
