Removing internet explorer from computer?

My computer came with IE and I don't use it, I use safari, it's my default browser. Months ago IE stopped working all together and when I click it, it pops up with a box that says IE has stopped working and then shuts off, what will happen if I remove IE from my computer all together and everything it comes with? Will it affect my other browsers and my computer in any way?
