Does anyone know how to access the different pets in Pet Pad on the Leapster Explorer?

I have contacted customer service and they have been no help....when my son is on the Leapster, it says to connect in order to choose new pets (he wants the dragon). When I log on though, it only lets me choose between 2 cats. If anyone knows how to workaround this, I would be grateful!
