Can a word have only 1 syllable and still have a root word?

For example, I have become interested in the English word cache and all of its equivalences because it's an internet term. In Japanese, cache is 隠し場所 and the verb meaning to hide is 隠す and both have the 隠 symbols in them. But cache could look like it came from French, but the French word is cachette with the verb as cacher and in German, the noun is Verstecker with the verb as verstecken? So this helped me understand better what I'm really doing when I'm clearing the cache on the internet because I really thought without taking it was a French word, it was pronounced like catch instead of cash.
